Annual Appeal

Religious Education, Youth Ministry and Chaplaincy form the background of many of our efforts. All three areas minister to the youth and young people of our Archdiocese. Youth Ministry remains a key need in the Archdiocese and will continue to be so in the future. We support Chaplaincy at St. Paul’s College; an important contact with young people because the ministry of presence is so necessary. Religious Education leadership in all six deaneries is provided at the Parish level, with support from our Archdiocesan coordinators. We must ensure that this important work continues to support our youth and their spiritual development.

Our Home Missions care primarily for the Indigenous communities in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. At one time, these communities were served by, and for the most part, funded through the work of the Oblates. However, with numbers shrinking, the Oblates regretfully had to withdraw from these communities, and they are now fully a part of diocesan pastoral and financial leadership. Home Missions include several parishes, especially in First Nations communities, which are grateful for the generosity of their fellow parishioners in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. Religious Education Programs, clergy and religious leadership, and basic Pastoral Life is possible in these parishes because of your generosity. We support ministry in the Westman and Parkland Deaneries and in Winnipeg at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish. In addition, the Archdiocese of Winnipeg is very committed to Social Justice and the call to work especially for the disadvantaged in our communities.

Clergy Support is another key area of stewardship in the Archdiocese. Our clergy provide essential leadership. The Archdiocese has always provided its priests with opportunities to update their professional skills and general knowledge to serve their parishes more effectively in these complex times. Our priests and deacons are equipped for their ministry through our support of Study Days, retreats, and other programs. The recruitment and expenses related to the arrival of International Priests are also an important element of clergy support. In addition to contributions from the priest members, the Archdiocese contributes a substantial amount of money to the needs of the Priests’ Pension Plan. Our priests’ continuing retirement support and education benefit everyone in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. We need your support to continue this work.

The Archdiocese of Winnipeg has been a vibrant and serving Church due, among other leadership, to the quality and dedication of its priests. The Archdiocese is committed to developing strong and highly-trained men to assume leadership positions in the Church. Future pastoral leadership in the Archdiocese is a constant concern. We currently have two men in seminary at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Edmonton.

The Archdiocese provides much, oftentimes unrecognized, support for our parish communities. Whether it is counsel on human resources matters, communications, insurance issues, stewardship, support to parish pastoral and finance councils, assistance with government regulatory reporting or canonical advice, the Catholic Centre staff tries to support parish requests. We are all Church together in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg.

Together, as an Archdiocesan church, we provide services that support parish, communities, parishioners and the wider church. These ministries include the work of the Marriage Tribunal, Cemetery Board, Ecumenism, Liturgy and our financial support to the Church in Canada through the work of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
