World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly – July 26, 2026

On Sunday, July 26, the Church celebrates the 6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, observed each year on the Sunday closest to the Feast of Saints Anne and Joachim.

This year’s theme, chosen by Pope Leo XIV, is “I will never forget you” (Isaiah 49:15), a reminder of God’s enduring love and the immeasurable dignity of every older person. In his message for this day, the Holy Father encourages all of us, especially the young, to reach out to grandparents and the elderly, reminding them that they are cherished, valued, and never forgotten.

To help parishes, families, and individuals celebrate this special day, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has gathered a variety of resources, including Pope Leo XIV’s message, a Vatican pastoral toolkit, a prayer for the day, and additional materials for reflection and celebration.

Explore the resources below and join us in giving thanks for the wisdom, faith, and witness of grandparents and the elderly in our families, parishes, and communities!
