The Jubilee of Catechists

A catechist is a “Christian who receives a particular calling from God that, when accepted in faith, empowers him for the service of the transmission of faith and for the task of initiating others into the Christian life.” – Directory for Catechesis, no. 112

Background:

The 2025 Jubilee of Catechists is a celebration that honours, inspires, and strengthens the faith of Catholic Church Catechists.
This event focuses on spiritual formation, pilgrimage, and prayer, encouraging catechists to live their faith, find peace with God, and give thanks for their vocation.
The Holy See has designated several Jubilee Days throughout 2025 to honour and celebrate different groups of people and various ministries within the Church.
The Jubilee of Catechists will take place from Friday, September 26, to Sunday, September 28, 2025. The official celebration of the Jubilee of Catechists in Rome includes the institution of men and women in the ministry of catechist on Sunday, September 28.
It should be noted that the Jubilee of Catechists includes those catechists who are not called to be part of the instituted ministry of catechist.

How Parishes Can Participate:

Let us honour and celebrate our Catechists in our parishes! To recognize our catechists, the commissioning ceremony serves as a formal way for the Church to acknowledge and celebrate the dedication of those committed to teaching the faith.
This ceremony, for the blessing and commissioning of catechists, can be held during Mass or outside of Mass, possibly in conjunction with praying the Liturgy of the Hours or at a simple commissioning service.
