Strengthening Parish Leadership: A Look Back at Our First PPC Workshops

The Archdiocese of Winnipeg recently marked an exciting milestone with its first-ever Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Workshops, held on October 25 at St. John XXIII Parish in Winnipeg and November 8 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish in Brandon.

These workshops were initiated by the Church Governance Commission as part of our ongoing Synod Implementation efforts, reflecting our shared commitment to building vibrant, collaborative parish communities.

The PPC plays a vital role in parish life, serving as a consultative and collaborative body that guides pastoral priorities and fosters engagement. These gatherings brought together PPC representatives from across the Archdiocese for a meaningful day of learning, sharing, and deepening their understanding of the PPC’s mission, both collectively and as individual members.

Participants explored:

  • The purpose and responsibilities of PPCs in parish governance.
  • Practical ways to strengthen collaboration between pastors and councils.
  • How synodality shapes leadership and decision-making.
  • And more …

The workshops were about conversation and connection. Attendees shared their experiences, hopes, and challenges, creating a space for mutual support and inspiration.

We invite you to enjoy a selection of photos from the events, along with a video featuring participants sharing why serving their parish matters to them and what they dream for their parish’s future.

The journey doesn’t end here. We are excited to announce that PPC Workshop: Part 2 is planned for the new year as we continue to strengthen parish leadership and foster synodal engagement across the Archdiocese.

Stay tuned for details, and thank you to everyone who participated and helped make these first workshops a success!
