Rite of Election 2025

Most Reverend Richard Gagnon, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, gathered many of the parish communities throughout the Archdiocese on March 8th, 2025, at St. Mary’s Cathedral with clergy and faithful of the local church.
The Rite of Election and the enrollment of names close the catechumenate’s lengthy period of formation of the catechumen’s minds and hearts. This rite, which coincides with the opening of Lent, marks the beginning of the final and more intense preparation for the sacraments of initiation, during which the elect will be encouraged to follow Christ with greater generosity.
As he awaits his retirement, we thank Archbishop Gagnon for 11 years of exceptional pastoral care and loving service in our Archdiocese. Thanks to Fr. Darin Gurr, Fr. Daryl Miranda, and Fr. Geoffrey Angeles, and the St. Mary’s Cathedral Family. We also thank the unwavering service of our catechists and the clergy of every parish, who continue to accompany the catechumens and candidates in their spiritual journey.
