Organizations like the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, its parishes, parish schools and archdiocesan cemeteries must comply with the federal government's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA") and with the 10 Privacy Principles developed by the Canadian Standards Association which form part of PIPEDA.
While the Archdiocese, its parishes, parish schools and archdiocesan cemeteries are all non-profit organizations, we still all carry on business activities – for example, the Archdiocese looks after some administrative interests of its parishes, parishioners, parish schools and archdiocesan cemeteries ; each parish looks after the interests of its parishioners; and each parish school looks after the interests of its teachers and students.
Given the collective interest that the Archdiocese has in its parishes, their parishioners, parish schools and archdiocesan cemeteries, the Archdiocese has developed a PIPEDA compliance project that includes all of the above. Respecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal information has always been an important part of our commitment to our parishioners, constituents, donors, sponsors, volunteers and other stakeholders. We are committed to complying with PIPEDA and as a result of our commitment we have developed the following documents.
