The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Winnipeg presented the collection from its Centennial Mass, attended by 14,000 faithful at MTS Centre May 3, to Returning to Spirit, an Aboriginal non-profit charitable organization providing reconciliation and healing workshops that bring Aboriginals and Non-Aboriginals together.
A donation of $60,000 was presented by Archbishop Richard Gagnon to Lisa Raven, Executive Director of Returning to Spirit, and Rev. Francois Paradis, a priest at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Aboriginal Parish in Winnipeg, and a Returning to Spirit workshop coordinator.
The Canadian Catholic Entities Party to the Indian Residential School Settlement was the core funder of Returning to Spirit until 2012. Since then Returning to Spirit has been supported by a variety of grants and funding from the Counseling Foundation of Canada, a major anonymous donor, the United Church of Canada, religious communities, dioceses and people from across Canada. Returning to Spirit is based in Headingley, Man. The website is: http://www.returningtospirit.org
